The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a not-for-profit organization that was formed in and currently boasts overmembers. Acting as an engineering society, ASME sets codes and standards for mechanical devices, including the boiler and pressure vessels LaGrange Products produces.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a not-for-profit organization that governs and sets codes and standards for pressure vessel design, fabrication and inspection.
A "U" stamp signifies a standard pressure vessel, and a "UM" stamp signifies a miniature pressure vessel. The United States and Canada, as well as over other countries, accept and regulate their pressure vessels to ASME codes and standards. Sincethe National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors has overseen the adherence of codes covering construction, installation, repair, maintenance, alteration and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.
Into create a uniform quality standard, the Board instituted a Repair "R" Stamp and Certificate for Authorization to qualified manufacturers performing repairs on boilers and pressure vessels. The Department of Transportation was formed in by an act of Congress, and as a federal cabinet department, governs all aspects of transportation in the United States. The pressure vessels LaGrange Products produces, to serve the above categories, must always conform to DOT specifications.
Created init specifies the requirements for materials, design, purchasing, manufacture, testing, inspection, certification and registration, shipment, and maintenance and repairs of pressure vessels in Australia.
Pressure vessels, boilers and fittings constructed for use in Canada require a special registration for each Province the vessels will be used in. A Canadian Registration Number is issued to that specific vessel type once it has been inspected and registered by qualified Provincial engineers. The American Bureau of Shipping was formed in as a means of qualifying and certifying ship captains.
Since that time, ABS has evolved into a classification society, developing construction and safety standards referred to as ABS Rules concerning the design, construction and operation of new and existing vessels, as well as marine-related onshore and offshore structures and facilities. It consists of a global family of standards governing the quality management systems of countries. The European Union has its own specific standards for the design and manufacture of pressure vessels and equipment.
The current PED has been in effect sinceand was formed to eliminate technical trade barriers and to standardize the laws between the countries making up the EU and the European economic trading area.
The PED is one of a series of technical directives covering everything from medical devices and electrical equipment to pressure vessels used in industries as diverse as energy production, pharmaceutical, chemical, plastics and rubber, and the food and beverage industries.
The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors oversees the adherence of codes covering construction, installation, repair, maintenance, alteration and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.
It was created in to represent government agencies across North Americaand is the only standard recognized worldwide for pressure vessel in-service inspection, repairs and alterations. The Board offers an extensive training program for third-party inspectors and industry professionals, maintains a testing laboratory, and investigates pressure vessel accidents and code compliance issues.

The component requires RT and PT testing which would be done upon the components return to company A. This is also where the AI could inspect it. However, Company B is across the street where the AI could also inspect.
Thanks, Kix. By qcrobert Date Edited Yes you are correct that Co. B cannot perform the fabrication In order to fabricate "U" stamped components you must employ an Authorized Inspection Agency.
No AIA is going to approve your fabricated parts from a non-stamp company. By MBSims Date Nope, Missouri. Is company A in New Jersey now trying to figure some way for comany B to weld to their procedures and control them under there quality program because they think comapy B is considered a field site per UW in sec VIII?
By js55 Date I have to disagree somewhat with what everybody has said. The crux for me is what robert indicated. If company B operates under Company A's procedures and program its who cares.Pressure vessel fabricators and steam boilers are subjected to rigorous tests to ensure they are in compliance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME Broiler and Pressure Vessel codes, rules and regulations.
This is required to obtain an ASME certification. Based on the requirements and specificity of the ASME certification, there are specific ASME codes ascribed to units and production companies based on the specific standards met. Based on ASME's Section 8, Division 1, there are distinct designations for pressure vessel which indicate that larger vessels should receive the U stamp while smaller or miniature vessels receive the UM stamp. The main difference between the ASME U-stamp vessel and the UM-stamp vessel manufacturing companies, however, goes beyond the size, even if a person could correctly differentiate primarily between the stamps and vessels using size as a factor.
Other differences between the ASME U-stamp and the UM-stamp vessel manufacturing companies include the inspection procedure undergone by the two stamp vessels respectively. According to the procedure lined up by the certification board, the UM stamp vessels are not required to undergo the same level of inspection as the larger U vessels are subjected to.
Based on this, the UM-stamp vessel manufacturing companies are subjected to lesser scrutiny by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers compared to the U-stamp vessel manufacturing companies.
Also, the UM-stamp vessel is not required to have a 3rd party ASME inspector review and approval calculations as required of U-stamp vessels. To further ensure quality and safety, the U-stamp vessels manufacturing companies are required to have an additional 3rd party hydro test inspector review while this level of inspection is not necessary and required of the UM-stamp vessel manufacturing companies.
Companies with the ASME UM-stamp vessels which indicates smaller volumes compared to the U-stamp vessel manufacturing companies undergo an annual audit which is done to check compliance of the companies and vessels with the rules and regulations of the certification board. Meanwhile, the ASME U-stamp vessels manufacturing companies are subjected to inspection once every three years. The ASME code which was established to ensure that the fabrication, design and operation of vessels is highly safe and reliable makes it possible for the vessels to operate in a variety of environments and under diverse processes.
